There were 57 members present including 11 committee members. The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting. Motion Carried. | | 3. | Matters arising from the previous Minutes. There were no matters tabled. | | 4. | Chairman’s Report.Hilary Tyler addressed some of the events and changes that had occurred in Old Portsmouth during the previous year but admitted that she would be keeping her report to a minimum as she had written a more comprehensive report in the Old Portsmouth Review. She said that she was particularly pleased with the Review which was getting bigger and better every year and particularly thanked Gail Baird for her efforts in producing the document. Work was still continuing on the paving within Grand Parade, which Terry Halloran was closely monitoring as well as keeping us informed of the various consultations about pavements and street lighting. Later in the meeting Terry would be asking the membership for information about a specific house in the High Street which was demolished by a bomb during the war.Particular tribute was paid to David Baynes who was leaving the committee in order to devote more attention to his responsibilities at the Naval Museum in the Dockyard. David had held the post of Social Secretary for two years, during which time the membership had never been short of interesting topics and presentations, and his efforts had certainly achieved a great deal in raising the profile as well as contributing to a healthy membership of the Association. His efforts would be missed but a volunteer was now required to fill this vacant post. The membership was also reminded to respond to the City Council’s consultation on ‘Strategies for the Seafront and the Hard’ as the decision would ultimately impact upon Old Portsmouth. In addition, expressing support for the completion of the pedestrian link between Gunwharf and the Harbour Station would be a great advantage to local residents. Finally, she reminded the audience that on completion of the presentation on the Mary Rose Trust by Lucy Hone, a glass of wine and ‘nibbles’ would be available which had again been kindly supplied by Camber Wines. | | 5. | Treasurer’s Report.Graham Brett briefed the membership on the financial situation of FOOPA. He said that the financial situation had improved over that of the previous year because of the increase in membership and membership fees. The accounts had been audited as usual by Keith Feltham and Dave Smith. Full details were available in the 2010 Old Portsmouth Review. It was proposed by Terry Halloran and seconded by Geoff Terry that the accounts be accepted. Motion Carried. | | 6. | Election of Officers. The current officers of: - Hilary Tyler (Chair)
- Peter Richmond (Secretary)
- Graham Brett (Treasurer)
- Geoff Terry (V-Chair)
were willing to continue in office. It was proposed by Heather Greaves and seconded by Eve White that the current officers should remain in post for a further year. Motion Carried. | | 7. | Election of Executive Committee Members. Now that David Baynes had ‘moved on’ there were currently 10 members of the committee including the 4 officers. The Rules of the Association allowed for up to 14 committee members in total. In addition to the 4 officers listed above the current committee consisted of: - Geoff Smith (Membership)
- Terry Halloran (Planning)
- Rob Wood (Webmaster)
- Bob Stewart (Spice Island Representative)

The Chairman asked if there were any persons present who would like to serve or propose further members to the committee. A replacement Social Secretary was urgently required as David Baynes would be ‘standing down’ from the committee after the meeting, There were no proposals from the audience. It was proposed by Keith Feltham and seconded by Paul Bass that the current committee remain in post for a further year.Carried unanimously. The Chairman thanked David Baynes as outgoing Social Secretary for his excellent work and organisation over the previous two years. His commitment to the association’s social activities would be greatly missed. This was fully supported by the membership. | | 8. | Appointment of Auditors. The Chairman thanked the current auditors (Keith Feltham and Dave Smith) for their efforts and advised that they were prepared to continue. It was proposed by Geoff Terry and seconded by Sandra Stockdale that they are re-appointed for a further year.Carried unanimously. | | 9. | FOOPA WebsiteRob Wood gave an update on the FOOPA website. He said that the site continued to show sustained growth with an increasing number of ‘hits’ on a monthly basis. Top subjects appeared to be accommodation, restaurants, pubs, etc., which showed an increasing interest in Old Portsmouth for holiday information. However, he was still looking for articles and information on local history which would add even more interest to the site. | | 10. | War Damage InformationTerry Halloran asked for any further information to be forwarded to him regarding the building originally at 101 High Street – which had been demolished during enemy action. He requested, in particular, any information the membership may have regarding the memorial plaque at the site of the original building (now in the Cathedral lawn) referring to the ‘blitz’ of 1941 and the number of deaths in the property while sheltering in the cellar. | | 11. | Any Other BusinessThere being no further business the meeting closed at 8.10pm. | On completion of the meeting there was an interesting presentation on the New Mary Rose Museum Project by Lucy Hone (Fund Raising Manager) during which time a number of artefacts from the vessel were shown. At the end of the presentation the attendees were invited to finish of the meeting with a glass of wine and ‘nibbles’ which were kindly supplied and served by Dave and Karen from Camber Wines.
